MUSIC IS DESTROYING MENTAL HEALTH ?

Technological development and excessive usage of mobile phones have lead the world towards countless mental illnesses beyond a person’s imagination. The transforming world at super-sonic pace and increased competitive behaviors among individuals with the want of more and more has lead a generation of youngsters more vulnerable to mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression, hypertension and constant stress. A world formed within our mobile phones at just a single click away from us has left us comparing ourselves with everyone on social media and the hyper reality that it follows, leads the thought processes of a person towards something which becomes uncontrollable for them to take care of, if not identified by themselves and set limits to. No doubt, positive sides do beheld and outgrow various factors that have helped shape the world into the form it is right now, in many better ways, but the ultimate effect that everyone is bearing in form of mental health is something not to be ignored at all, let alone the stigma of talking about it.

Excessive scrolling on social media, mobile addiction, repetitive behaviors, constant boredom and fatigue are the aspects that are usually focused upon by researchers when discussing the effects these terminologies have on our mental health.

Meanwhile, talking about the effects music has on our mental health, we settle down and become less impulsive when we listen to music, which is due to the rhythmic and repeated elements of the song. Music is frequently used to match or alter our emotional state. While there are certain advantages to matching music to our mood, doing so can have the unintended consequence of keeping us in a sad, angry, or nervous state.

Whereas positive effects being discussed that the music has on our mental health include, reduction in stress, that is, the melodies that we listen to, with the frequency it is settled upon, different pitches affect our mood differently whereas mostly it has proven to be helpful in releasing stress for the listener. Secondly it elevates a person’s mood and motivation towards certain things, third, it is said to help improvise focus of a person, and also help in reducing anxious and depressive thoughts for a person.

For most people, music is an important part of their daily lives. Be it their aily travelling, they listen to music to keep them going. Some people turn up a favorite playlist to keep them going during a workout, too. Many people even turn their music on even cooking, taking a shower, as well as while they wrap the laundry.

For some people, music is a way to be creative, for others it's a way to relax, and for us, it can have a big impact on our mood. Music can make us dance, run faster, calm our minds, and make us remember things. Producing your own melodies, even if you just play a guitar or write lyrics to a song, proves beneficial in expressing and processing your feelings. How you feel is more important than how it sound. One thing to be mindful of is that no one has to listen to your music unless you want them to.

Emotional control is an important part of mental health. People who can't control their emotions are more likely to have psych mood disorders like distress. Medical practitioners know how powerful music can be when it comes to emotions. They can use music to help their clients improve their moods and even help relieve the symptoms of psychiatric mood disorders like depression. Besides, countless humans already hear music under their own to help them deal with their emotions. There isn't much information out there about how this kind of music listening affects their mental health, though. Brain imaging shows how people's brains respond to different types of music and how that affects how they control their emotions. In a study, it was found that men who use music to deal with negative emotions react badly to aggressive and sad music.

Lazy Journalism - How it impacts the perceptions of people?

Lazy Journalism

What effect does it have on people's perceptions?

Laptop screen showing news

When we hear word journalism, the most common thing that comes to our mind is news. We trust the news we get from different sources be it social media, news channels in TV or newspaper. We trust every word we listen or read from them. So, it is not wrong to say that these sources of information play a huge role in shaping the mindset of people. Whenever we hear some information, we take it to our mind and make perception according to the information provided.

Recently we heard the news of a new variant emerging in a country and the first thing that came to my mind was “This country is unsafe now”. Now it may be true but it’s not complete information. This is where the lazy nature of journalist jumps in when they give us the latest news but not complete news. After hearing such we form perceptions and not knowing the complete truth we may face some dangerous situations.

Now suppose you are in a park which has 8 gates each facing different regions, now suddenly you hear this news that a small area near a gate is unsafe for children because of its worsening condition but you don’t exactly know which one of the gates because the park has several gates. Some people may take precautions without even knowing the exact location but only few people, the rest of the people may not even bother to know the exact gate location because the information was mainly focusing on the gate area but it can be any one of the gates which is dangerous situation. Now in these types of conditions complete facts are so important for the safety of people but because of the laziness of the informer people thought that they were informing about the other gates.

Same like this situation, we are facing a recent problem of media spreading the news of a specific country is unsafe but not telling that how exactly the other few countries are safe or not and the public will also not bother to investigate because they trust these sources of information.

Equipment used for journalism

In this age of information, where everything is based on information the laziness of journalist can cost so much to us that we can’t even imagine loss we’ll face one day because of them. we get this incomplete information and we act according to that information.

It is a very huge mistake on your conscious part to just write any news mindlessly because it may be due to some very logical reasons of work over load, pressure or not being in the right state of mind and their but they should also consider the social duty they have is of great responsibility bear a huge responsibility that makes it difficult for them to loosen up. As the quotations of Shakespeare:

So, they should pay more attention to what headlines they are writing to attract the audience. Is it damaging their mental health or someone’s reputation? Because it may attract them an audience for a while an they may get more and more views but once someone’s reputation gets damage it will very difficult to recover it. We have also seen many cases of celebrities being a victim of false news or rumors that comes as a hot topic and headline for journalists.

For example, there was a scandal of Kim Seon Ho, a Korean actor, who had the scandal of forcing her ex-girlfriend to abort their child. When this news first came everyone started posting about this scandal every local news website was spreading this news. His whole career went down the drain and many of agencies backed out and cut off any relation of their agencies to him. But soon after this, when his career was in the lowest of its time, Dispatch ( a Korean news agency), stepped in and gave the exact facts with proofs of the whole case which saved his career and he survived this scandal and it was all because a news agency decided to publish the true facts.

Just because a news agency decided to speak truth with proper headlines, it saved someone’s life so this is how huge the impact of journalism is on our lives and our minds.
